Character Education Assembly for Famililes

By Heather Liban
Tuesday, Dec 2 2008, 08:39 AM

Hand shakes and words were once stronger than a contract.  However, today many claim to be trustworthy and too often, it's all talk and no action.

Come to an exciting character education assembly at Lincoln school on December 3.  This assembly is a 40-minute multi-media experience, where the goal is to teach students to:

  • be honest with themselves
  • be responsible for their own actions
  • be straightforward and honest with those around them in a positive, respectful manner
  • become a person everyone can trust

This is a great opportunity for families to view this important message together.

Where: Lincoln Elementary School, 4416 S Packard Ave
When: December 3, 2008
Time: 7:00 PM

On September 25, Lincoln School held a celebration for all the students who were either on time every day or had all their work completed on time.

The celebration consisted of relay races and games: a pajama pant balloon race, a penny on a shoe race, a marshmallow on a spoon race, and a clean out my backyard game. Both students and staff had a lot of fun!

Congratulations to all the students who took part in the celebration.

Playpals

By Heather Liban
Wednesday, Sep 17 2008, 09:50 AM

At Kosciuszko school, a new extra-curricular group called Playpals has been created to improve the quality of games on the playground.

For this group, responsible students exhibiting certain leadership skills were selected by teachers to participate in the program. During the month of September, the Playpal advisors and Mr. Katte will train the students and work to develop their skills so that they can lead games, model good sportsmanship, and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills on the playground.

Hopefully, the Playpals will be ready, trained, and out on the playground in early October.

During this school year, Kosciuszko and most recently Lincoln School are acknowledging students who exhibit these character traits:

RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, CITIZENSHIP, COURTESY, PERSEVERANCE, INTEGRITY

Kosciuszko School

Every month, staff at Kosciuszko recognizes students (Exceptional Eagle Awards) who have done an exceptional job growing in an emphasized character trait.  Winners receive a certificate at a monthly assembly and can receive prizes like ice cream with the principal. For more information about the Character Education program at Kosciuszko, go to their web site.

Lincoln School

At Lincoln School, students who exhibit these character traits are showcased on a school-wide bulletin board title Rainbow of Responsibility located outside the school office. Once the rainbow reaches the pot of gold, students will share in a celebration.
